We are deeply saddened by the death of John Payton, LDF’s Director-Counsel, on March 22, 2012.

John was the sixth leader of LDF, the nation’s premier civil rights law firm (where I served as Western Regional Counsel).  John was an accomplished lawyer at many levels.  The greatest tribute we can pay John is that he was “Payton / Civil Rights Advocate,” as it says on the grave stone of his predecessor Thurgood Marshall.
