TAKE ACTION: Don’t let Congress fail to protect national parks from dangerous cuts in January 2013. Tell Congress to keep national parks open and rangers on duty today! npca.org/parkfunding.
If lawmakers can’t decide by January, the Park Service could face a possible 8 percent decrease next year; the parks already have suffered significant cuts in recent years. The president’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2013 would reduce the number of full-time employees and volunteers (who require some administrative funds), which would impede the agency’s ability to maintain the land and monuments it protects, according to the Washington Post.
The Washington Post ran a front page story and a related video as well as an editorial that focus on the funding challenges facing the national parks, including the potentially devastating budget cuts.
