Public Interest Law in Ireland - The Reality and the Potential

Posted: October 3rd, 2005

Public interest law is not a field of law in the normal sense of the term (such as family or criminal law). Rather it is a way of working with the law for the benefit of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Public interest law may also apply to working for broader issues, such as, for example, environmental concerns. FLAC (Free Legal Advice Center) an independent human rights organization based in Ireland and dedicated to the realization of equal access to justice for all is hosting a conference on October 6, 2005, in Dublin, Ireland, that will focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged people. The Center’s Executive Director Robert Garcia will be presenting a paper at the conference concerning public interest law in the United States.
