Re-Envisioning California 2005
The William C. Velásquez Institute (WCVI) will be holding its 20th Anniversary Conference: Re-Envisioning California: A Progressive Latino Strategy for Civic Participation and Sustainable Development on November 12 and 13 in Los Angeles. The conference will feature Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, Los Angeles School Board President Marlene Canter, and others in a roundtable discussion concerning people of color and their role in Los Angeles City government and California state government, a Latino summit on the environment, and much more.
WCVI, the Center for Law in the Public Interest, Anahuak Youth Soccer Association, Mujeres de la Tierra, and REMAP-LA (UCLA) will host the Latino summit on the environment at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on November 13, 2005. The Center’s Executive Director Robert GarcÃa and Roger Rivera of the National Hispanic Environmental Council will kick off the summit topic “A Latino Reframing of Environmentalism.” Latino leaders from government, community, business, labor, academia, religious, and youth sectors will discuss the connections between their central concerns (jobs, education, public safety, housing, healthcare, immigration reform) and environmental priorities.
