The 40 acre site will provide children the simple joys of playing in the park, revive the working class neighborhoods of Northeast L.A., and be part of the Heritage Parkscape linking over 100 recreational, environmental, cultural, historical and educational sites along the L.A. River. The community, activists, and advocates stopped commercial development on the former railyard in favor of a beautiful, balanced park with active and passive recreation in harmony with the natural habitat. State and city officials listened to the community.

The park provides soccer fields, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, habitat restoration and nature walks, and much, much more. At Saturday’s celebration, children planted trees, learned about wildlife, and played in the park’s fountains and fields. Community members enjoyed the event’s cultural performances and learned about the site’s history through public art.

They said it couldn’t be done, but the dream has come true. The City Project is proud to be a part of the many community organizations, activists, advocates, civic leaders, elected officials, agencies, and ordinary people that have made the dream come true for a park at Taylor Yard!
