Ms. Alice C. Royal Colonel Allensworth State Park

Ms. Alice C. Royal, shown here in the Allensworth School House, was born at Allensworth in 1923. She is the author of the book Allensworth, The Freedom Colony. A public health nurse by profession, she chaired the Colonel Allensworth State Park Advisory Committee from 1985 to 1989, and has continued to research and collect histories of former Allensworth residents, many of which appear in her book. She has devoted herself to recording this history of Allensworth to asssure that its message of dignity and social justice will endure.
