The Los Angeles City Council will vote June 20 on a supplement environmental impact report (EIR) for a luxury housing project on Elephant Hill in El Sereno in Tract 35022.

To help achieve equal access to open space throughout the Los Angeles region, we urge the City Council to require a supplemental EIR, in light of new information and changes to the project since the prior environmental analysis.

As the Los Angeles Times has emphasized in a recent article and editorial, East L.A. is entitled to open space protection, just as West L.A. is.

The public comments letter from the Anahuak Youth Association, The City Project, Mujeres de la Tierra, and William C. Velazquez Institute is attached.

You Can Help:
Attend the City Council hearing on Elephant Hill at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007, in Room 340, City Hall, 200 S. Spring Street (enter on Main).
Call or email City Council Members and staff and urge them to vote IN FAVOR of the motion for a Supplement EIR for Elephant Hill Tract 35022 (File Number #04-1413).

Paul Vandevanter of Community Partners writes that “the good fight is not only about good. It’s about who holds power and who’s committed to that most dangerous of political results: a just, fair and truly democratic society.”
