As “New Chinatown” marks its 70th anniversary today, those celebrating will include the so-called grandchildren — the second- and third-generation Chinese American professionals like Ron Louie who no longer live in Chinatown but keep a finger there nonetheless. … Organizers will show historic photographs, a swing band will perform and one of Central Plaza’s more recent tenants will unveil newly installed neon lights along the roof lines of his three buildings — an ornament that long distinguished Central Plaza until the lights fell into disrepair in the 1980s.

The Commerce Department has set a hearing date on the toll road agency appeal for July 24 and/or July 25 at UC Irvine. The notice of hearing is attached. 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Griffith Park. Built circa 1853, the adobe was extensively remodeled in the 1920s. Today it serves as the Park Ranger Headquarters and Visitors’ Center for Griffith Park. The Chinese Cemetery Shrine built in 1888 is the oldest Chinese-built structures in Los Angeles. This Shrine was used for the burning of clothes, money and incense for the decedent in the next world.
