Ventura City Council voted unanimously to purchase property for a new park on February 4, 2013. The 2.4 acre property located between Ventura Avenue and Kellogg Street will provide people with open green space in a community that has lacked park and recreation space.
Residents and community activists literally applauded Ventura City Council’s decision. Community members and diverse allies including CAUSE/VAULT, Westside Community Council, and The City Project, worked with Ventura to develop additional parks and recreational facilities on the Westside to meet the needs of the community. Together they held rallies, attended meetings and looked for funding to support Kellogg park.
