LOS ANGELES, July 31,2007 (KABC-TV) –
“I feel sad, because I cannot get in and get wet,” said William Garcia, a local youth.
“It’s not fair for the low-income families to have a pool this near and be closed,” said area resident Guadalupe Gonzalez. . . .
“There’s no place to go swimming, there’s virtually no park space in this part of L.A. This area is in [Calif. State Assembly] Speaker Fabian Nunez’s district. It is the most park-poor assembly district in the state of California,” said Robert Garcia of The City Project. . . .
The district is working on getting lifeguards for the pool, but community members fear that by the time they do that, summer will be over.
