Dr. King and Cesar Chávez practiced social change through nonviolence, relying on the teachings of Satyagraha by Mahatma Gandhi. They fought for human dignity, civil rights, environmental justice, health equity, and just democracy.

Dr. King recognized education, jobs, park and health access, housing, and just democracy raise compelling civil rights concerns in his essay A Testament of Hope.

Mr. Chavez with Dolores Huerta organized the United Farmworkers Union to fight for jobs, education, housing, health equity, and environmental justice free from from poisonous pesticides.

March 31 is the anniversary of César Chávez’s birthday, and April 4 is the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination.
